Chris Duarte Group and Taylor Moore Band – Atlanta Room, Smith’s Olde Bar
Thursday, February 18, 2010
These guys can lay down some serious tunes… if you’re a blues fan, you cannot miss this show. Duarte and Moore are two of the most talented blues guitar players I have every heard, and I’ve heard a lot of blues guitar! Come out to Smith’s and dance your ass off – or, just dance a lot. See Duarte’s review of his latest album in Atlanta Music Guide here and a review of Taylor’s EP here.
Josh Harty and Blake Thomas – Atlanta Room, Smith’s Olde Bar
Wednesday, February 17, 2010; 8 pm
If you like genuinely fantastic, well-written, clever music, come check out these two folk / Americana guys from Madison, WI. They rarely come to Atlanta, and it’s surely a show that you should not miss. I can guarantee you will enjoy yourself.
Tickets are only $5 at the door – how can you pass THAT up??
Want to do some good? Hear some kick-ass music while you’re at it!
There are a whole handful of great venues in Atlanta, but you really just can’t beat the listening experience you get at Eddie’s Attic in Decatur. In addition to their usual impressive menu of virtuous artists, they’ve got several fundraising events coming up as well, so take advantage of doing good for the world and get a taste of some fantastic music as well.
Sunday, January 24th: “Rockin’ 4 Rett” – all proceeds go toward research for Rett Syndrome, in the name nine-year-old Sarah Harding, who lives with the disease.
OLIVER WOOD‘s (of The Wood Brothers) music has a rootsy feel and a timeless quality with echoes of country blues, Appalachian bluegrass, and New Orleans R&B. The critically acclaimed debut CD (recorded with brother Chris Wood of Modeski, Martin & Wood) “Ways Not To Lose” was Amazon.com’s #1 pick for folk music back in ’06.
THE MOSIER BROTHERS are Jeff and Johnny Mosier (aka Good Medicine Bluegrass Band).
The Raleigh Times says ELISE WITT‘s performance is, “Like a suitcase plastered with stickers from around the worlda?| populated with interesting characters both heroic and comic.” She has just released Valise, her 11th recording “Love Being Here.”
MICHAEL SMITH & LEAH CALVERT (of The Dappled Grays) bring their acclaimed bluegrass to the stage tonight. Leah is known for her strong bluesy vocals. Michael is a mandolinist, singer, and founding member of The Dappled Grays who once used to tour with Sugarland.
Gary Ray Pfaff and The Heartwells
Saturday, January 23 @ Andrews Upstairs (top floor of East Andrews in Buckhead)
It’s going to be a GREAT show! http://garyraymusic.com/
Help Get Haiti Back on Track
If you are reading this blog, you are SO much more fortunate than the Haitians affected by the 7.0 scale earthquake that hit on Tuesday, January 12. While we sit at our computers and complain about menial things, the Haitians struggle to get food, water, shelter, medical aid, and to find their friends and families.
But you can help. The State Department’s DipNote blog writes that “for those interested in helping immediately, simply text ‘HAITI’ to ’90999′ and
a donation of $10 will be given automatically to the Red Cross to help with relief efforts, charged to your cell phone bill. Or you can go online to organizations like the Red Cross and Mercy Corps
to make a contribution to the disaster relief efforts.”
Chris Duarte and Taylor Moore Band at Smith’s Olde Bar
Thursday, February 18 at 8:00 pm; Atlanta Room (downstairs)
About 10 years ago Taylor Moore’s dad took him to see Duarte at the Handlebar in Greenville, S.C. (where Taylor headlined last Saturday night to a crowd of about 250, not bad for a Bowl Game night). Duarte’s the guy who made Taylor really pick up the guitar, and some 10 years later from that point, the two guitar-slingers’ll be playing side-by-side (with a little duelin’ at the end) in Atlanta.
Both players an interesting enough backstory.
Here’s a quick blurb from Greenville Metromix about Taylor from last week. Or, check out his website: www.taylormooremusic.com
